Overview

The African Heritage & Kenya Experience is a carefully curated journey designed to introduce travelers to Kenya through its people, history, culture, cuisine, creativity, community and wildlife.

Rather than presenting Kenya simply as a safari destination, this experience begins in Nairobi, where travelers explore the country’s historical foundations, cultural identity and contemporary African character before travelling to the Maasai Mara for an immersive wildlife and community experience.

The journey concludes in Nairobi, allowing travelers to reconnect with the modern face of Kenya before their departure.

The result is a balanced experience that answers a simple question:

Arrival Day ARRIVAL IN NAIROBI

Welcome to Kenya

Overnight: Nairobi

Meals: Dinner

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by a Liech Adventures representative and welcomed to Kenya.

You will be assisted with your arrival formalities before being transferred to your Nairobi hotel.

After check-in, the remainder of the afternoon or evening will be at leisure, allowing you time to settle into your surroundings after your international journey.

In the evening, enjoy a specially selected Kenyan welcome dinner.

This first meal introduces you to the flavors of Kenya through a selection of traditional and contemporary dishes. Depending on the restaurant, the menu may include Kenyan staples such as nyama choma, chapati, ugali, sukuma wiki, samosas and other locally inspired dishes.

The dinner also provides an informal introduction to Kenya's diverse culinary influences, reflecting African, Indian, Arab and European interactions that have shaped the country's food culture.

Experience Highlight

Your journey begins with Kenyan hospitality and cuisine.

Daily Itinerary NAIROBI – KENYAN HISTORY & HERITAGE

Understanding Kenya's Story

Overnight: Nairobi

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, begin your Kenyan heritage journey with a visit to the Nairobi National Museum.

Nairobi National Museum

The morning is dedicated to understanding Kenya's history, cultural diversity and natural heritage.

Explore the museum's collections and galleries, including the History of Kenya exhibition, which provides context on Kenya's communities, pre-colonial history, colonial period and the country's journey toward independence. The museum also presents Kenya's archaeological, paleontological, cultural and natural heritage.

This visit establishes the historical foundation for the rest of the journey and gives travelers a better understanding of the people, traditions and events that have shaped modern Kenya.

Kenyan Lunch Experience

After the museum visit, enjoy lunch at a carefully selected Nairobi restaurant.

The meal will introduce travelers to authentic Kenyan flavors, with an opportunity to experience dishes influenced by the country's diverse communities and historical connections.

Karen Blixen Museum

In the afternoon, continue to the Karen Blixen Museum, located in the leafy Karen area of Nairobi.

The former farmhouse offers an opportunity to explore another important chapter in Kenya's history and the colonial period.

Travelers will learn about the agricultural settler era, the social and economic environment of colonial Kenya, and the historical context surrounding Karen Blixen's life in the country.

The visit also provides an opportunity to discuss the colonial period from a broader Kenyan perspective rather than viewing it only through the personal story associated with Out of Africa.

The contrast between the morning's broad Kenyan historical narrative and the afternoon's more specific colonialera experience creates a more balanced understanding of Kenya's past.

Return to Nairobi

After the Karen Blixen Museum, return to the hotel for some time to relax.

The evening is at leisure, allowing travelers to settle in after a full day of historical and cultural exploration.

Experience Highlight

Understand Kenya's past—from its diverse communities and pre-colonial heritage through the colonial period and the journey toward modern Kenya.

Daily Itinerary NAIROBI – AFRICAN HERITAGE, ART & CONTEMPORARY CULTURE

From Historical Kenya to Modern Nairobi

Overnight: Nairobi

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, continue exploring Nairobi through heritage, art and contemporary African culture.

Nairobi Gallery

Visit the Nairobi Gallery, located in one of Nairobi's historic buildings.

The building itself forms part of Nairobi's history. Constructed in 1913, it served several administrative and political functions during the colonial and post-independence periods. Today, it houses the Joseph and Sheila Murumbi collections and supports exhibitions of African art.

This visit provides an opportunity to examine African history through art, objects, design and visual culture.

The experience creates a natural transition:

Yesterday's Kenya → Today's Kenya.

Kenyan Art & Creative Culture

Continue into Nairobi's contemporary creative scene.

Depending on the group's interests and the operating schedule, the experience can include a curated visit to a local African art, fashion, design or creative space.

Travelers will encounter the work of Kenyan creatives and gain insight into how modern Africans express identity through:

• Art

• Fashion

• Photography

• Music

• Design

• Craft

• Film

• Entrepreneurship

This is an important part of the product because contemporary Africa should not be presented as frozen in tradition.

Local Food Experience

Enjoy lunch featuring Kenyan cuisine.

The focus will be on experiencing food as part of culture rather than simply providing a meal.

Travelers can learn about ingredients, preparation methods and the regional influences that have shaped Kenyan cuisine.

Nairobi at Leisure

The remainder of the afternoon is available for relaxation or independent exploration.

Depending on the group's interests, optional shopping can be arranged for Kenyan coffee, tea, handmade crafts, fashion and locally produced products.

Experience Highlight

See Nairobi as a living African city, not simply a gateway to safari.

Youth & Entrepreneurship Experience

Continue to a pre-arranged youth-focused social enterprise, innovation or community initiative.

Meet young Kenyans involved in entrepreneurship, technology, creative industries or community development and hear directly about their experiences, challenges and ambitions.

The conversation will provide a contemporary perspective on Kenya and demonstrate how young Africans are creating businesses, employment opportunities and solutions within their communities.

Experience focus: Youth, entrepreneurship, innovation and contemporary African leadership.

Kenyan Cultural Interaction – Bomas of Kenya

Continue to Bomas of Kenya for an immersive introduction to the cultural diversity of Kenya.

Explore representations of traditional homesteads and experience Kenyan music, dance and cultural performances representing different communities from across the country.

Rather than presenting these traditions simply as entertainment, the experience provides an opportunity to understand how music, dance, architecture, dress and storytelling form part of Kenya's cultural identity.

Experience focus: Kenyan communities, traditional heritage, music, dance and cultural identity.

Lunch

Enjoy a Kenyan lunch featuring locally inspired dishes.

The meal provides another opportunity to experience Kenya through its food, with an emphasis on traditional flavors and locally sourced ingredients.

Return to Nairobi

After the cultural experience, return to the hotel for some time to relax.

The evening is free for travelers to enjoy Nairobi at their own pace or, if preferred, an optional evening dining experience can be arranged.
